5/ Various Monsters >>>
Here is an introduction to some wild and feared monsters of the Deport.
You may encounter these in rare and unknown places, be ready to fight !
Carix Xarisman (rare, marshes and wet areas)
Fast and dangerous creature of the marshes, the Xarisman loves to ambush
adventurers.
Its sharp jaws and huge body (more than 3 tons !) make it a tough
opponent, difficult to deal with. Its teeth are so resistant antic
weaponsmiths used it to build weapons and armors.
A Xarisman hasn't been seen in the Western Deport for ages, and unless
you visit the Metrolian area, it shouldn't bother you but... who knows ?
Ocean Cuttlewhale (rare, tropical areas)
Huge octopus, the cuttlewhale regularly eats whales.
Its weight and height are impressive, 15 meters, 5000 kg, and tens of tentacles.
Cow Dragoon (very rare)
Little and ridiculous creature, the cow dragoon is considered a dragon due to
some particularities only related to dragons.
The cow dragoon is a tricky animal that can wield awesome spells.
Millipuf (Indinera Woods)
Wasp extremely feared by hunters, merchants, guides, or even Indinera inhabitants.
This wasp is highly resistant, stronger than most metals, fast (30 m/s) and
can cause major damages with its sting.
Avoid any Millipuf !
Malushi (created, abnormal creature)
The Malushi was once a normal Fire Elemental, but turned to an unstable and distorted
creature due to experimentation failures.
Beware its great power, however !
Darkenezzeer (rare, haunts remote places)
Very little is known about the Darkenezzeers, antic knights, but their swords still
threaten adventurers. Once a powerful guild, the Darkenezzeers got slaughtered
by hungry Dragons coming from the Mountains. The Darkenezzeers became
huge armored ghosts.
The legend says fighting a Darkenezzeer is among the best experiences for a
fighter !
Xerberus (unique, hound of the outer world)
Like the Sanguine Phoenix, Xerberus comes from the outer world.
A legend once said the hound had been created and tamed by its creator, but
books confirmed this statement appeared to be wrong.
Xerberus was the Pet of many Gods, from Magdalena to O'Org the God of Darkness,
but vanished from the Gods' Kingdom and was found again in the Deport.
None can tell where the hound is now.
Goyundoundo (rare, around SankT Leona)
Huge and ugly red giant, the Goyundoundo walks aimlessly in the plains of the Western
Part of SankT Leona. Mean, but shy and placid, this giant never dares entering the town, but
careless merchants may be surprise by his two fat arms... and this usually leads to
sudden death, or strangulation.
Titanix (unique, unknown provenance)
Some say this is a machine, some say this is a ghost...
Who really knows ?
Probably the Titanix is an artifact, but this armored creature is discreet enough
not to bring attention on it.
Take care, it's a tough opponent !
Arcadion (very rare, deep, wet and dark caves)
Huge snake of 8 meters, the Arcadion can spit a powerful venom very dangerous to
human beings. Its thick and heavy body, sometimes 2 meters round, is another way to strangle
its victims. Hopefully, this reptile cannot be found somewhere else than deep
and wet caves, but a lot of adventurers seeking for fame or gold already got devoured by this creature.
Drak' O Brugge (extremely rare, ultimate evolution of mage dragon lords)
Books say this creature is one hundred long, and they may not be that wrong.
Drak' O Brugge are fast and dangerous dragons, wielding great large
spells and able to bite violently. It is almost sure they can talk,
understand more than one language, and use nasty tricks to reach their
goals. Drak' O Brugge are very sensitive to human flesh.
Eternal Warrior (used by Necromancers)
Bones of a huge creature like an Orc, an Ogre or a Giant Lizard,
the Eternal Warrior is revived and controlled by a powerful wizard.
Gifted with an amazing strength, the undead creature is however weak
to bursts of flames !
Tantalus Wardom (rare promotion among Necromancers)
The Tantalus Wardom is caracterized by a huge appetite to destruction,
torture, and he most of the times uses the famous scissors able to cut
through human skin and leave indelible scars.
Only guided by his hatred toward most living creatures, the Tantalus
Wardom is stronger than most common Necromancers, and can use
efficiently various spells.
Drazkaerzazzkarius (frequent in worthy dungeons)
Its little "brother" the Carn ' O Carn can be encountered in dungeons targeted by novice
adventurers, like abandoned churches, cemeteries, and such.
Always willing to eat adventurers or bounty hunters, the "Drazz" waits
patiently, disguised in a chest, for its victim to come close to it.
Even the most experienced adventurer will have a hard time trying
to detect a Drazz before it attacks. Its mimicry habilities are
indeed close to perfection. But like spiders, some Drazz prefer
the "jumping" method (ie surprising the adventurers).
Huge, heavy (1000kg) and gifted with impressive jaws, the Drazz is a
tough opponent that is already responsible for thousands of deaths.
Its strange name's explanation is nowadays lost, but try to pronounce it
in a loud voice, you'll see, it sounds quite good !
Teszrandus (unique)
This name has been employed to call the huge Queen Lycose that was furtively observed,
only once, 25 years ago in the SankT Leona Hills.
People said it was 6-8 meters long.
It was never seen again, and is probably dead now.
Orc Lord (frequent, 10-15% of a common orcish tribe)
"Orc Lord" is a high rank in the orcish society.
The Orc Lord is gifted with a good resistance and has some magical
habilities. They master the art of fighting, can speak many languages, and are able to
rule a short group of people.
A well-balanced warrior.
Cupidon (common)
Little tricky creature, the Cupidon can either use its metal trident or
some nasty damaging spells. Fast and resistant, it often attacks in
group, trying to ambush careless adventurers, to kill them, steal their
gold and their metals.
Indinera Worm (common, Indinera Woods)
To give you an idea of how huge can be the creatures in this mystic place,
the Indinera Worm is for the Indinera Woods what a common worm is for
plains of the Deport. That is probably the reason why only experienced
Elves dare leaving the roads to enter the forest. Many times the Indinera
Woods were aim of explorers' attempts to draw maps, discover the mythical Lakes
or Elven tribes, but they never got revealed.
Talking back about the Worm, this creature is usually tamed by Indinera
Elves, and used as a horse or a dog. Fat and long, the Worm is a dangerous
opponent a lot of rogue elves use to steal merchants' convoys.
Gargaryan Beast (unique, Gargaryan Lands)
In the Gargaryan Lands, nobody dares wandering alone anymore.
Indeed, the number of mysterious deaths is increasing every week, and
in front of the lack of explanations, the same, simple, words are
repeated everytime : the Gargaryan Beast.
Supposedly a dragon, or a huge lion, only a few people happened to
claim having seen it, and nobody survived yet a closer encounter.
Will someone ever describe accurately this monster, or isn't it
actually just a... legend to cover bandits' murders ?
Land Predator (lives in tribes, remote plains, rocky areas)
Fast and accurate bird of prey, the Land Predator has no limit from the
simple squirrel to the Orc or the Giant. Alone or in group,
it most of the times chooses a single victim, or even a little
group of people, and pounces.
Merchants know how the Predator can be dangerous, and they
often pay an experienced archer and a guy to check the wide open skies.
Rillian Anaconda (unique, Rillian Mountains)
The first man to report the Anaconda's presence near Rillia was some
Cockatrix hunter. The creature was soon located in some caves
of the Rillian Mountains. It wasn't considered as a threat for Rillia,
and because of its incredible and feared strength (15 heads, says the
rumor !), it was never hunted by the Rillian Town Hall.
The Anaconda is indeed hurt by sunlight, and has never been observed
outside of its cave.
Beware, though ! Some tried to bring the head(s) (!) as a token of their
bravery, or to gain promotion in their job, but they failed and now probably
lie on the dirty ground of the Anaconda's cave.
Thaumaturgist (rare, magician class)
The "Thaumaturgist" is a class dedicated to spells of damages,
healing and alteration. Though they are very uncommon in the
Southern and Western Deports, they can be encountered in places
where dark magic is used.
Nasty and intelligent, the Thaumaturgists can easily defeat a
whole party using the right spells. Their organization is mainly
centered around Metrolia, but novice Thaumaturgists often venture
in SankT Leona or Adretana to gain experience and knowledge.
Balthus Golem (unique, artifact)
8 meters tall, more than 2 tons, these are the impressive stats of
this living artifact, built by some Wizard who never claim property
of his masterpiece.
Observed in the Tangarian Wastelands, it appears to stay quiet and
almost lifeless, guarding an old and now longer used anymore network of mines.
Some explorers tried to defeat the Golem, but they were forced to
retreat, and the legend now tells the artifact may be invincible.
Wind G-Octopus (common, various places of the Deport)
Able to breath air, the fat Wind G-Octopus and his friends quickly
began to settle within the lands. Huge (3 to 5 meters tall), they
easily impressed the common folks, but never really caused the adventurers
to die.
The Octopus can attack with its tentacles, or spread some blur
cloud of their own liquids.
Torahl (unique, unknown location)
Last son of the Elven Dragon Chira, Torahl escaped the Indinera Woods
and disappeared. Gossips have it, in Indinera, that he may have been
eaten by some bigger dragon, an Indinera Worm, or even captured and
slaughtered by bounty hunters.
Like a lot of Elven Dragons, Torahl loved gathering artifacts and
shiny metals.
Tricky Spirit (rare, churches, shrines or cemeteries)
Little ghost, the Tricky Spirit always regenerates and in this
way, cannot be killed. Mischievous, it loves having fun, and usually
isn't as hostile as other creatures are.
Zapoo (no genuine proof of these creatures' existence)
No one is still alive to tell what "Zapoos" exactly are.
The only mention of these "strange little animals, shouting Zapoo Zapoo
in a tiny voice, moving in groups and hiding unique gems in narrow caves",
was found in a dated book by Casalus, an explorer known for having visited
remote islands and tried to draw a general map of the seas.
There are a lot more mythical and fierce monsters. Beware on your road !
